24A-Venture Concept No.1
“MeanTime” is a web based app that allows college students (over age of 21) to check the lines and capacity of their favorite bars on campus through a live stream update system. Through this system, students can see what the line is like at their favorite bars on campus and make their plan for that night with their friends. Just like surfer use online webcams to check the waves without going all the way to the beach, students can check the live feeds through the app to maximize their time rather than going all the way to the bar and wait in line for a majority of their night.
Opportunity: The reason I created “MeanTime” is because it started as my un met need. I found myself way too many times getting to my favorite bar and having to wait for more than an hour to get in. As a college student, I am busy and have a lot of better things to do than sit in lines for hours. Through “MeanTime” students can maximize their time and arrive to their favorite bars when they see fit. Weather students check the app early in the night and go out before the crowds arrive, check the app and see a bit of a line and decide to keep pre gaming or studying till the line dies down or see that the line is already long and decide to start their night at another bar. Since it was an unmet for myself I feel that there is great opportunity to be successful. There is a big need for this for college students between the age of (21-28) that enjoy getting drinks and having fun with their friends in their free time and weekends. The reason I feel that there is a need for this is because millennials are both want to have fun with their friends and hate missing out on that fun and juggling a lot of things like school and work in their busy lives. Alongside that, students are also impatient and hate waiting so anything to allow them to wait less and do what they want more will be appealing to them.
Innovation: This service is a brand new idea and will change the game of college students time management forever. ‘MeanTime”, as described in the first paragraph, is a revolutionary idea that is great itself but also can expand and grow into something much bigger. I envision starting with just the live stream of your favorite bars lines and once it proves to be successful add on the same idea for the campus athletic gym and library. I feel that those three aspects of campus that get the most action and have the longest wait times. The service would start with a free download on the apply store and a one-month free trial with the creation of an account. Once the free trial has passed it will be $9.99 per month for full access of live streams at the bars, library and gym.
Venture Idea: The process of ‘MeanTime” becoming successful on any college campus will happen organically with a little bit of marketing. The way I see it most thing on college campus’ that become popular is all through correctly placed promotions and word of mouth. We bring the influential people on campus on board and have them start spreading the word about ‘MeanTime” and show how it can help students save time and the word of mouth will kick start the trend of “MeanTime”. This process has been done before and should be fairly seamless.

Hey Johnny! I think this is a great idea and reminds me of what Volcano Bay did with rides and wait times. I don't think bars have anything like this and would help save people time that could be better used elsewhere. If it's successful in one college town you could even expand it out to others. The key is going to be having a smooth streamlined app and connecting with local and busy bars.
ReplyDeleteHey Johnny,
ReplyDeleteI like that you added the gym to this idea. I like to go to the gym when it isn’t busy so that I can get in and get out. It isn’t a social experience for me. I would think there are college students that do not have the time to spend socializing in the gym and prefer getting their workout over with.
